Hi my name is Gerry Goyette, I am a new student pilot from Orange County, New York I am in training with Independent Helicopters out of Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, NY. Flying a helicopter has been a life long dream for me ever since I saw a Bell 47 come down out of the skys to a highway construction site in the rural country side in the Hudson Valley NY area, I was 7 years old then and I was an avid fan of the TV show "WhirlyBirds" I am now 58 and I finally have the spendable cash to fullfill this dream! I am flying a Robinson R22 and I am progressing well! I also have a Heli chair Sim setup running MS Flight Simulator. My goals are to become the best most proficient pilot I can be and to have fun! Flying thru the skys in this magnificent machine is just an awsome experience! I would like to invite any other pilots out there to join my dialouge and share their experiences!

Gerry,

It was very nice to see your input here.  I am 52 and currently in the medical device field.  I want to get out and become a helicopter pilot as a career.  However, I am thinking I waited to long to get started.  Your thoughts?

Thanks,

Tom

Gerry,
I am in a very similar situation. I have wanted to get a private helo rating for years. I am 35 and finally in a position where I can make it happen. I just went for a demo flight the other day and I loved it. I was nervous and tense at first. I had a death grip on the cyclic when the instructor let me take the controls. Hopefully, when I start my training I will relax a little. Are you planning to stop after your private rating and fly for fun or are you going to pursue this as a career?

Jim
