Jumpseating is a professional courtesy between pilots.

You must at all times use common courtesy while jumpseating.

The Cockpit Access Security System (CASS) is used to identify crewmembers and will allow you sit in th cockpit if the flight is full.

Presently we have no CASS agreements and so are only able to ride in the passenger cabin if there is an empty passenger seat.

To jumpseat you must be properly dressed. Look Professional and act Professional (clean pressed uniform, polished shoes, clean shaven etc). Remember you are presenting you self as a "Professional Pilot" to the crew and the passengers - image matters in to the general paying public.

When jumpseating arrive early to the gate.

When the gate agent is free, be very courteous and ask if could jumpseat.

The gate agent will give you a jumpseat form to fill out.

Once completed return it along with you airline ID and photo ID so the gate agent can verify who you are.

The agent will give you a pink copy to present to the captain; remember to ask the gate agent when they would like you to board.

When the gate agent lets you board ask if there is a preferred seat they would like you to sit at.

Normally you will board after all paying customers have boarded.

Introduce yourself to the flight attendant and ask if you may ask the captain for a ride.

Present to the captain the pink jumpseat slip, airline ID, photo ID, pilot certificate and current medical - the captain will keep the pink jumpseat slip.

Always ask the captain, even if the agent gave you a boarding pass with a seat assignment; don't forget to introduce yourself to the rest of the crew as well.

The captain is the final authority as to who rides and is not to be challenged for any reason; if denied a jumpseat, say "thanks anyway" and try a different flight.

Once onboard be courteous to the flight attendant; remember that inflight meals and drinks are intended for paying customers and you may only be offered something after the passengers have been served.

When the aircraft lands, let the paying passengers disembark first.

On the way out always thank the captain and the rest of the crew for the ride.

Always be the consummate professional while jumpseating. It is one of the most valuable career benefits we have.
